You know what we love? Outerwear.
You know what we love more than outerwear?
Outerwear that’s belted at the waist.
This is a current style trend that we really, really need are dying to try, y’all. NYFW streetstyle was all about belted outerwear – belted coats – and I am reeling from the sheer cleanness and coolness. What better way to highlight the body’s shape in less than agreeable weather than through belting a coat? Genius.
The accompanying photos say everything, really. A variety of coats and a variety of waist belts pair together seamlessly – a skinny, green waist belt is paired with a blue-green coat; a wide, black waist belt is paired with a white fur (possibly faux-fur) coat, and etc. The marriage of belts – belts with different widths and colors and materials and textures – and coats – coats with different lengths and colors and materials and textures – is brilliant.
Belting a coat at the waist flatters the body’s shape and lengthens the body. Flattering and lengthening? Yes. Please. Yes.
This trend puts the “law” in “flawless” – and we’re officially beginning a style law saying that belting coats is necessary for accomplishing the sleekest and coolest look during this freezing, east coast February (and it can totally work for our West coast folks too).
