Can we introduce you to Ryann Holmes?
Khafra Co. Style Story
Most of you know Ryan from Brooklyn Boihood , but Ryan also does amazing work for the Center for NuLeadership on Urban Solutions , and MoCADA . We could give you the full run down on how much we love Ryann, how many amazing things Ryann has done in the community, but … we really want to talk to you abut Ryann’s style.

So here goes. Ryann’s style: **WE LOVE IT** .
Check Ryann talking about life and style below. How would you describe your signature style? “I like wearing comfy clothes that look fly. Mostly clothes my friends make. My style is also kinda punk. Other times its very casual, and more focused on tiny one-of-a-kind details.” At Khafra Company, we want to dress our clients for every moment of every day - for work or play. How do you decide what you’re wearing during the week?
“I don’t put that much thought into what I’m wearing honestly. I wear what feels good. I wear things that look original. I just started to wear color, thats fun. I like to thrift, but I don’t shop often. When I like a piece I wear it over and over again. I might wear a similar outfit 3x in one week. But I’ll look fly tho:) For me, style is about individuality, emotion, and honesty. I try and reflect who I feel like on the inside. Sometimes thats kinda bummy.” At Khafra Company, we take style super seriously. What items in your wardrobe can you absolutely not live without? Why? What makes them so special? “My SunSun pants!!! Custom made by my super talented friend Sun Sun in Toronto. They are literally the flyest and most comfy pants I’ve ever worn. I have like 6 pair. All diff patterns and colors. Also, I feel kinda weird without a hat on. I almost always have one on. Its sort of like armor to me.“ What 3 things are you most looking forward to adding to your wardrobe this season? “I’ve been having fun thrifting sweaters this year for winter. I’m also looking forward to new accessories.
Especially beads and gold things. I want to be adorned like a prince this coming spring. Lastly, I’m on the hunt for some vintage frames. Great eyewear makes me feel good. ” At Khafra Company, we think that all of our clients and customers are slightly-more-than-fierce. What does that mean to you? “‘Slightly-more-than’ is kinda funny, LOL. I think folks are ‘all the way’ fierce in their own right. The more folks are themselves the more it translates. Or doesn’t. Bottom line is being yourself is awesome. Be inspired. Make everything your own. Thats the key. Wait. What was the question? LOL. jk. Thanks Khafra!”

Speaking of being yourself … you can catch a bunch of bois being awesome in the 2015 bklyn boihood calendar.

Meet Alexis Casson, creator of “The Peculiar Kind”
Khafra Co. Style Story

It’s been awhile since we’ve had a good style story ! Lucky for us, we’re back with a fantastic one! Basic bio –> She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, has a small Shih Tzu named Ellie Munkin Fat and can make a mean sweet potato pie. She wears many hats; Camera Operator, Editor, Photographer and she also dabbles in Graphic & Web design. And we absolutely love her!

And not just because she let us hang out with her for hours while trying on vintage fur.

There’s really not enough that we could even say about Alexis to really let you all know just how much we love her around here. So … we begged and pleaded and she graced us with a few answers about her style.

How would you describe your signature style? “Ya’ll, I don’t have style. My girlfriend says I dress like an asian woman. Is that PC? Probably not. But I do have a love for big coats and jackets that drape like kimonos and I live for mandarin collars, oversized tees, boyfriend/mom jeans and flatforms (I’m short).”
At Khafra Company, we want to dress our clients for every moment of every day - for work or play. How do you decide what you’re wearing during the week?
“My profession actually encourages relaxed attire.” “So I can pretty much wear what I want everyday. Usual day: docs/flatforms, vintage tee/sweatshirt and skinny rolled up jeans.” At Khafra Company, we take style super seriously. What items in your wardrobe can you absolutely not live without? Why? What makes them so special? “That’s hard. I’m really not attached to anything. WOW! I know one thing that’s not fashion related that I can’t live without and recently that’s been my leather medicine pouch and healing stones.
If I had to pick though… I actually just splurged on two leather Jackets from Scotch & Soda and I honestly don’t know what I was wearing before I had those beauties in my life.” What 3 things are you most looking forward to adding to your wardrobe this season? “I’d like to add more dresses and playsuits to my wardrobe. I plan on traveling to a lot of warm places and moving to the west coast. In my mind, any place where it’s warm calls for loose-fitting, one-piece flowing things. I’m so down for living a carefree black girl experience. ”
At Khafra Company, we think that all of our clients and customers are slightly-more-than-fierce. What does that mean to you? “Great question. I guess it means that after all is said and done, we wear what we want. What makes us feel comfortable and confident at the same damn time. ”

5 Things Your Grandmother Did That You Had No Use For As A Child But Desperately Need To Swear By as an Adult

Let’s face it. Our grandmother’s did some crazy things that thoroughly confused us as children but today … well … they just don’t seem that bad. In fact, they seem slightly brilliant, actually. I’ll go ahead and accept that maybe it was just our grandmothers … whatevs. Either way, today we’ve got our top 5 granny habits we’re totally claiming this year year!

Like these things:

   1. Let’s not pretend like your good old granny didn’t spend the beginning of the New Year stocking up on stationary.
We love stationary! It’s the perfect way to leave an impression! It’s also super perfect for creatives and entrepreneurs committed to following up with new or potential clients … or new connections … or just new friends who have left an impression on you!

We LOVE the cute and quirky cards from AllyElleCards ! 2. Speaking of stationary, let’s be real, granny’s are the queens of discount shopping! What better time to stock up on all the holiday cards and wrapping paper you’ll need for next year than right now?! It’s all on SALE!

   3. Granny’s love to prep a serious winter wardrobe .
Granny’s love a good seasonal change. They’re completely here for shedding and storing whatever is needed and prepping for some cold weather like the store’s won’t be open when the winter hits. Well … winter is here … and we found the most AMAZING winter wear at Shirley + Alice last time we were in Brooklyn! Check the rest of the pics from our trip to Shirley + Alice HERE .
   4. Start Spring and Summer Prep
Granny’s love a good trip. But for the most frugal of grannies, planning the perfect summer that could somehow include kids, grandkids, and things THEY actually wanted for THEMSELVES meant one thing: 5. Updating the recipe book!
      what? that’s not yo’ granny?“
You may not have a huge rolodex of recipes like your granny had. Maybe you’re not writing them all down in a sacred binder … BUT … now’s still the best time to get on your "new year, new you” ( rolls eyes ) ish and find a few good recipes to get you through the rest of winter.

MUSIC: SiairaShawn live at Rockwood Music Hall

Most of you have been around long enough to know we love SiairaShawn

Let these two videos from her recent performance at Rockwood Music Hall serve as serious reasons why.

“I was honored to sing this song originally sung by Nat King Cole, last year at a dance performance honoring James Baldwin. The words put me in the mind of not just Baldwin and his brilliance, but also of all those we have lost and those who have been slain. And the outsiders, outliers and those who don’t feel like they quite belong. We are all special and We are the ones.”

#2015WhatWeWant – Bring Your Sexy Back

Ok, ok, we know all of our khafra community is fine as hell.

Yup.

… the tea of it all …

So we’re here to help you … keep all that sexy you’ve already got … and GET EVEN SEXIER in 2015! We know. We too feel like it’s almost too good to be true.

We once had a friend tell us that you only needed 4 things for daily emotional health. So … we thought we’d pass the word along.

  1. Laughter
Are you getting enough of it? No really. Like gull-belly, snorted for no reason, filled with big love and joy laughter? No? Well fix it. Removed all the things you can easily identify as barriers and still need a lil help? These folks might be able to lend a hand. –> Micah Hobbes Frazier OR Kingston Farady OR Gaylesta
   2. Exercise

Now, this list could go on and on … just find a way that works for you. Move your body. Even if you’re only doing it while on an elliptical in front of a television watching Gilmore Girl’s. Not that we know anything about that or anything. – Right now, we’re loving the easy tips from WriteYogaLove .

Well … any excuse to wear these cute cropped hoodies .

  3. Orgasms

Well you don’t have to believe us … ask Elizabeth how important an orgasm is to your daily health.
   4. Prayer

Look, you don’t have to believe us … but know we’ve never lied to you. If you’re not one to call asking the universe to provide you with all that you need “prayer,” then try this: go HERE, grab a journal , write what you want in it every day. Actively focus on and meditate on those wants. Tell us if anything changes for you.

No? Well fix it. liquorinthefront:

BUTCH is a documentary portrait project and exploration of the butch aesthetic, identity and presentation of female masculinity as it stands in 2013. It is a celebration of those who choose to exist and identify outside of the binary; who still get he’d and she’d differently throughout the day; who get called-out in bathrooms and eyed suspiciously at the airport; who have invented names for themselves as parents because “Mom” nor “Dad” feels quite right; and who will generally expect that stare from the gender police trying to figure out if they are “a boy or a girl”. It is an homage to the bull-daggers and female husbands before me, and to the young studs, gender queers, and bois who continue to bloom into the present.
